Christmas Wish

If you could have ANYTHING for Christmas, what would it be?
If you could change ANYTHING for Christmas, what would you change?

I think that it is fair to say that everyone wants to grow closer to God. No matter how close, or not so close you feel to Him, you could always know Him more. Who could ever fully know Him? If I say, "Maybe a more diciplined prayer life will bring me closer", then I am focused on my dicipline more than God. If I study more of the Bible will know Him more? Then, my motivation may be to trick myself into being proud of how "spiritual" I am by reading the word. How can I get closer to Him without it being about my performance? These are thoughts I have been contemplating and seeking God on for the past few weeks. Although those things are paths to getting closer to God, and I feel a definite neccesity in one's spiritual walk, they are not what make us grow. God makes us grow. You really can't make anything grow. You can plant seeds and water plants, but you can not MAKE a flower grow. You can feed your kids and provide a healthy life for them, but they just grow naturally. The real question is.What is stoping you from growing? If you have balance in your life, you will grow naturally. Paul writes in 1 Corinthians 3:6 says "I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow." and in Acts 2:46-47  it says "Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.  They had fellowship, they worshiped, they ministered, they eveangelized, and God made them grow. If you feel like you are not growing, ask yourself if you have balance in your life. Are you ministering? Are you evangelizing? Are you worshipping? Are you sharing life with fellow believers? I believe that if people focus on these things, God will grow them. The THINGS don't grow us. They lead us to God who grows us. They send us right to His throne in an intimate undistracted way. I want to get closer to Him. I want Him to grow me!

Carpe Diem

Sunday, 08 October 2006

Life is too short. Last weekend I was at Justin and Krystal Hodges' wedding. It was a beautiful ceremony. Everything from the music and candlelight to the cake was perfect. Right before the bride came out they played the song Butterfly Kisses. If you have never heard it and have a daughter, DO NOT LISTEN TO IT! It is an emotional tear jerker about a father letting his daughter go. Well, during this song I started to think about both of my daughters and about how fast they are growing. The reality hit me that someday, I will be walking each one of them down the isle. I know that won't happen for a long time, but it will happen. Life just happens so fast. There is something about weddings and funerals that gets you thinking about the journey of life. As I looked at my daughters wink and make funny faces at me during the wedding, I saw life a little differently at that moment. How differently would you live your life if you knew you only had one more week to live? What would you decide is really not important? What things would be essential to do in that week? Who would you talk to? How many conversations would you have with people about your true feelings? Would you finally tell that one person what you have always needed to say? Would your work schedule seem less important? Would you think more about that promotion or career opportunity or about how you wanted to spend more time with the ones you love? I challenge anyone who reads this to live this week, October 9th - October 15th, like it IS your last week here on earth. Rediscover your priorities. Tell that person how you feel. Live your life to the full. Stop worrying about what people might say or think. Live like someone who is changed. Show people that you are a part of God's family. Make Him proud. Seize the day!

James 4:13-17  Now listen, you who say, "Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money. "Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead, you ought to say, "If it is the Lord's will, we will live and do this or that. "As it is, you boast and brag. All such boasting is evil. Anyone, then, who knows the good he ought to do and doesn't do it, sins.

John 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
